Sarah Munce, MSc, PhD

Implementation Scientist, Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital, Bloorview Research Institute

Assistant Professor (status), Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation (IHPME), Rehabilitation Sciences Institute (RSI), University of Toronto

Affiliate Scientist, KITE Research Institute, University Health Network

Graduate Coordinator, Rehabilitation Sciences Institute, University of Toronto

Dr. Munce’s program of research relates to the co-development, implementation, and evaluation of transitional care interventions (eg, peer support, self-management, peer navigation) for youth with complex needs and their family members. She uses mixed methods, implementation science, co-design, and integrated knowledge translation/patient engagement approaches to carry out this research program. Dr. Munce has served as an Academic Editor and Guest Editor at two other journals before she joined JMIR Rehabilitation and Assistive Technologies as the Editor-in-Chief. She looks forward to working with the Editorial Board members and the JMIR team to promote the visibility of JMIR Rehabilitation and Assistive Technologies and ensure the publication of highly relevant and rigorous research.

Dr. Munce is a health services research and implementation scientist at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital, Bloorview Research Institute. She is also an Assistant Professor (status) at the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation (IHPME) at the University of Toronto with a cross-appointment at the Rehabilitation Sciences Institute (RSI). Dr. Munce is the former Membership Chair for the Mixed Methods International Research Association (MMIRA). She completed her PhD in Health Services Research-Outcomes and Evaluation with a Knowledge Translation specialization designation from the IHPME at the University of Toronto in 2014. She completed her post-doctoral training at the KITE Research Institute, specializing in mixed methods research and implementation science in the rehabilitation context.

She is a recipient of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Patient-Oriented Research Transition to Leadership Fellowship with expertise in qualitative methods, patient-oriented research, mixed methods research, arts-based methods, including digital storytelling, and clinical social work with youth and their families in hospital and community-based settings.

Alessandro Scano, PhD

Researcher, Intelligent Industrial Systems and Technologies for Advanced Manufacturing - National Research Council of Italy, Italy

Dr. Scano is a bioengineer who graduated from Politecnico di Milano and has been working since 2011 for the Italian National Research Council as a researcher in the biomedical field. His main area of expertise concerns the study of motor control and the design of novel algorithms based on the synergistic approach, with applications especially in the field of rehabilitation, including robots and assistive technologies. He has authored approximately 60 indexed contributions (with 40+ in journals with impact factors) and has participated in many national and international projects.

Kristina Kokorelias, PhD

Assistant Professor, University of Toronto, Canada

Dr. Kokorelias works as the Senior Academic Program Coordinator for the Department of Medicine’s Healthy Ageing and Geriatrics Program at Sinai Health and the University Health Network. In her role, Dr. Kokorelias helps to oversee the academic outcomes of the program by contributing to the operations, teaching, leadership, quality improvement, and health services research to help improve the quality of care for older adults and their caregivers. Kristina also has status appointments as Associate Scientist (Sinai Health) and Assistant Professor, Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy at the University of Toronto. Her program of research aims to understand the experiences and needs of family caregivers and older adults with complex care needs with the aim of using this information to develop, evaluate, and implement timely family-centered care programs and services. Her other research interests include advancing models of integrated care, sex and gender-based differences in family caregiving, and health care utilization patterns amongst diverse patient populations. Kristina aims to work closely with the end users of her research so that the programs that are developed through research are in line with the goals and objectives of existing health and social care service delivery models.
